More on the dogs

I wrote about this last night, but on Saturday Darby attacked Daisy.  Daisy is doing fine, a little sore, obviously, but fine.  When I reach into her little cat-house (because it's made for a cat, but we got it for her because she LOVES to hide), she growls at me, so I know she's ok :)  Our neighbor was very helpful, she gave us some medicine to give to her.  It's just baby Tylenol, but we didn't have any pills, only liquid.  She also suggested the liquid band-aid, which has helped so much...

...but we are undecided on whether or not we are going to keep Darby.  I can imagine that she would do this again.  It's happened twice-the 1st time she was protecting Livi, and this time I'm not sure what happened since I wasn't there, but I don't think she would do it unless she was protecting something or someone.  She is a very protective dog and will do what all animals do I guess.  I would hate to give her away and have this happen to someone else's dog, or worse, have her bite a person.

I know she doesn't understand that Daisy really isn't going to hurt anyone.  Sure she may bite someone, but honestly?  It feels like getting stuck with a needle, she would have to clamp down hard to break skin.  And Daisy is getting older, so she's grumpier than she used to be and doesn't like to be messed with.  I know having kids has ruined the poor dog...lol.  She used to love kids, but now that she gets tortured by Livi (not too much since she does bite at her), she doesn't want anything to do with kids!

I don't know what to do...a year ago I would have loved to get rid of Darby.  Now I don't know.  I look at her and think "you're a dumb dog, but you only want to protect, not harm".  And as mean as I can be to her sometimes (she deserves most of it...) she loves me.  She sits under my feet while I sit at the table, she follows me everywhere and doesn't like to be left in the house if I'm going outside.  She really is a good dog.  She loves to play with other dogs and she will let the kids pull her hair, pull her tail and be all out mean to her, and she just lets them.  She's very tolerant.

I know what you're thinking now..."get rid of Daisy".  Nope, not gonna happen.  She's our "baby".  We got Daisy not 2 months after we got married.  We got her because I needed something to love on like a child (I know that sounds ridiculous, but it's true).  She has been there with us during the death of my mom and Jason's grandma (both who loved Daisy-Grandma Schneider would hold her and they would fall asleep together on the couch), she's gone through 2 moves, 2 pregnancies, (the 2nd move and birth of Livi I thought would be the death of her, she was so stressed out...she even gained 1/2 a lb, making her 4 lbs, lol).  Obviously we are at a cross-roads, at least I am.  For now we are keeping the dogs apart.  I think Darby misses Daisy, but I'm not going to risk her hurting her again.

I realize that no one probably even cares, but I had to get my thoughts out on to "paper".

Party and puncture wound...

Yesterday was Jackson's 1st birthday and the kids joint party. I wasn't stressed until it came to icing the cupcakes...I will forever wonder why Wilton gel coloring doesn't mix with my homemade icing. I gave up and used canned. No one seemed to care :) The party went well, lots of fun, eating, laughing (mostly at Jackson and his messy cake-face!).

The kids opened their presents, thanked everyone and people started leaving. It was almost 9 at this point, and if Jackson doesn't go to bed by then, or isn't preoccupied with something else, he gets cranky. So I took him up to bed. As I sat down to nurse him, all of a sudden I hear all of this yelping and growling...

When I came downstairs, I saw my dad and father in law trying to get Daisy out of Darby's mouth. For reasons we will never know, Darby attacked Daisy. Daisy had been upstairs during the party, because she doesn't like lots of people. We decided that since most everyone was gone it was ok to bring her down. I missed everything, so I'm not exactly sure what happened, but I THINK she jumped down off of the couch to head to the kitchen and Darby must have thought that she was going to attack a kid, so she felt like she had to protect. Darby was also probably stressed out from all of the people. Whatever her reason, if we hadn't intervened, she would have killed Daisy.

If I wasn't a humane person, I would have killed Darby. But I am. Daisy is ok, after talking to our neighbor we got some liquid band-aid to close up her puncture wound.

I immediately wanted to get rid of Darby, but we are going to wait and see what happens. This isn't the first time this has happened, but this was much worse. I realize my blog is more about the dog thing than the kids party, but there really isn't much to say about the party, pictures will be coming :)
